CONTEMPORARY GARDEN HOUSE IN OAKLEY

This extensive renovation in Oakley transformed a traditional New England-style house into a contemporary family home defined by simple gable forms, generous glazing and a strong connection to the garden.

A key feature of the design is the use of Pretty Plastic tiles in two shades of Green and one Ochre. Applied to the large extensions, the recycled PVC tiles create a distinctive scale-like appearance that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape while adding texture, depth and character to the façade.

Designed by Philip Wadge Architecture, the project balances bold architectural expression with sustainability ambitions. The homeowners wanted a design that was both unique and as carbon-conscious as possible, embracing an unconventional palette of greens and warm golden accents. Together with the zinc detailing and large sliding glass openings, the green façades create a contemporary yet welcoming appearance.

Inside, light-filled living spaces open towards the long private garden, while polished concrete floors contribute to the building's thermal performance and environmental strategy.

The result is a highly individual home that demonstrates how recycled materials can play a central role in creating beautiful contemporary architecture.
