Environmental performance of Pretty Plastic: EPD and Dutch MPG

Specification · Last checked 8 October 2026 · Product data source: Dutch National Environmental Database (NMD) · Nederlandse versie

First One has a product-specific Category 1 environmental declaration in the Dutch National Environmental Database (NMD), entry nmd_92358, and an EPD. Architects can use this data directly in a Dutch MPG building calculation. This page explains what the data is and how to use it.

What is the MPG?

The MPG (Milieuprestatie Gebouwen, environmental performance of buildings) expresses the environmental impact of the materials in a building. It is calculated for the whole building, not for a single construction product. The lower the building's MPG score, the lower its calculated environmental impact.

Revised MPG rules apply in the Netherlands from 1 July 2026. The requirement for offices is stricter, and schools, shops, healthcare buildings and industrial halls, among others, have an MPG requirement for the first time. The calculation method also uses 19 impact categories instead of 11.

How does an architect use Pretty Plastic in an MPG calculation?

  1. In the MPG calculation tool, select the current NMD declaration for Pretty Plastic First One.
  2. Enter the quantity of facade cladding in m² used in the building.
  3. Let the tool include the product data in the building's total MPG.
  4. Always check that the current NMD version and calculation method are used.
A Category 1 declaration makes the environmental data product-specific and verifiable. It does not automatically mean that Pretty Plastic gives a lower MPG than every alternative in every project. The building score depends on all material choices, quantities, service life and the calculation method in force.

Why does this matter more from 1 July 2026?

The MPG now also applies to more non-residential buildings, including schools, shops, healthcare buildings and industrial halls. For architects and developers it is therefore more important to have product-specific environmental data available early in the design.

EPD and environmental documents

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is available for First One. The key figures are above; the full documents can be downloaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pretty Plastic listed in the NMD?

Yes. First One has a Category 1 environmental declaration in the Dutch National Environmental Database (nmd_92358).

Does Pretty Plastic have an EPD?

Yes, an EPD is available for First One.

Is the MKI the same as the MPG?

No. The MKI (environmental cost indicator) expresses the environmental impact of a product or quantity of material in euros. The MPG is a building-level score that relates the material impact of the whole building to, among other things, its gross floor area and service life.

Is Pretty Plastic always better for the MPG than timber, HPL or fibre cement?

That cannot be said in general. The outcome has to be calculated per design and per alternative, using current and comparable NMD data.
